100x Faster Email Cleanup

We made our email cleanup algorithm 100x faster.
I'm pretty excited about this one.
The biggest change you'll notice in ZeroInbox is that we now move your emails AS we scan your inbox.
Before, you had to wait for the scan to finish before the moving could begin. With a large inbox, that meant waiting to see the cleanup actually happen.
Now, when the cleaner reaches a conversation it already has permission to handle, it acts on it and continues scanning. That permission can come from a saved sender preference or a decision you've approved during the cleanup.
We do this by making use of Memories, and reducing the round trips where you have to make decisions. Even with subsequent runs, Memories stay active for up to six months, reducing your cleanup time.
So your inbox starts getting organized while we're still working through it. Decisions that need your review remain there for you to review.
That changes the experience quite a bit. You can see the work happening.
We also made over 10 improvements to how we communicate exactly what the cleaner is doing. There's a lot going on during a cleanup, and you should be able to follow it.
A few of the details you'll see:
- The cleaner's current stage, including scanning, applying actions, and waiting for review.
- How many emails it has scanned so far.
- Which sender's emails it is currently moving.
- Where those emails are going.
- When a decision keeps one conversation thread from a sender.
- Completed moves, archives, and moves to Trash, with email counts by sender.
- How many decisions need your review, including when there are more than the preview can show.
- Email previews you can open before deciding what to do.
- Whether an approved action is queued, being applied, applied, or failed.
- Saved sender preferences you can inspect in the cleaner.
- Clear messages when a cleanup has stalled or another operation is using the inbox.
- Explanations when an old approval has expired or been replaced.
- An email when the scan is done, so you know when to check back.
- A follow-up email when decisions remain, so you know to open the cleaner and finish them.
These details matter when you're trusting software with your inbox. You should be able to look at it and understand what has happened, what is happening now, and what still needs you.
And you don't have to keep the cleaner open waiting for it. When the scan finishes, we'll email you. If there are still decisions waiting for you, we'll tell you that too, so you can come back, review them, and finish the cleanup.
We've also added tracing of the AI's decisions in the chat.
As you talk to the cleaner, you can follow the actions and results behind the conversation: checking the cleanup status, bringing up decisions to review, and showing the outcome of an action. The chat gives you a record you can follow as you work with the AI.
For me, this is a big part of building useful AI. Give it the ability to do the work, then make that work understandable to the person using it.
I want you to open ZeroInbox, see your emails getting organized, and know exactly what's going on.
We're getting closer with every update.
